Re: I will sure mis the fest
Sat, September 3, 2005 - 10:29 AMNothing concrete that I have heard....only rumors. Like the fest will be moved to other property not too far from where it is now...to next year being it, no hope at lease renewal.

Re: I will sure mis the fest
Sun, September 4, 2005 - 1:02 PMThe lease is up after next season. I have it from very good, highly placed authority, that next year is the *last* year for MRF. However, that does not mean that someone will not pull a rabbit out of the hat.
The owners of the quarry want the lad to dig up stone. The city, county and owners of the land no longer wish to dobusiness with Jim Peterson. There COULD be new owners - perhaps even the quarry itself will take over ownership.
To move the site to another location is a MONUMENTAL expense, even with simply rebuilding.

Re: I will sure mis the fest
Mon, January 29, 2007 - 3:48 AMI myself have just moved to minnesota and was looking forward to familiarizing myself with the ren fest here (i was a regular at massachusett's King Richard's Faire)
it seems to me that any ren fest seems to generate those who are violently loyal and would do just about anything to help the fest out... perhaps a band of volunteers could team up for moving, rebuilding, painting, landscaping, etc?
if land is found, i will be the first to offer to help- . i can paint, cook, build (sort of, i have a bad back), dig, plant, plan, sew, etc. i have graphic design training so if new signs needed to be done i'd be up for that. cooking for the other volunteers? as long as i have the supplies and the place to do it, i'm all about it. if we had enough people and all the stuff we needed we could get the whole thing done in a week or 2 (or over a few weekends).
the building supplies : could be donated by a local lumbar yard in exchange for some free passes
same for the food, etc. the town it is moved to might just be excited about the prospect of additional tourists/income...
where there is a will, there is a way. -

Re: I will sure mis the fest
Mon, January 29, 2007 - 5:09 AMYou might note that this was 2005 discussion. Fest went on, in the same spot, in 2006. I believe it is going for 2007, although the rumors will fly... and the staff will, too... and maybe some entertainers? -

Re: I will sure mis the fest
Mon, January 29, 2007 - 6:34 AMThe official word from management is that the lease is good until through the end of this 2007 season. Although Carr Hagerman (aka the Ratcatcher) has recently announced he is stepping away from his role as artistic director, as well as a couple of other people who have left from the production staff. There are more active discussions of MNRF at these forums:
renaissancefestival.com has an active group of playtrons and participants.
finance.groups.yahoo.com/group...iends/ -Has been a longstanding Elist for participants and patrons
groups.yahoo.com/group/MNRF/ -this is a newly formed participants-only forum.
